I second setting up a local DNS, you could use BIND on an existing mac or recycle an old PC and install BIND on linux, use os x server, etc.
Other things to consider, if your hosts are obtaining IP addresses via DHCP you'll have to configure your DHCP server to assign the local DNS server IP address, right now it's probably assigning the IP address of your router/gateway you'll also need to set the search domain for your hosts so you don't have to type full domain names everytime.
If hosts have static IPs don't forget to manually set the DNS server IP and search domain.
On your DNS server, just set the forwarder IP address to what the DNS IPs are in your current router configuration, your ISPs DNS or you could just use OpenDNS servers which is what I usually do if I set up a local DNS server.
Did a quick search on the web and found this: http://www.macshadows.com/kb/index.php?title=How_To:_Enable_BIND_-_Mac_OS_X's_Built-in_DNS_Server ... could be useful. If you browse around enough you could find a way to do it on an existing Mac w/o installing server OS.

My 3GS is still like new, and I'll keep it until it starts sucking. I'm on 3.1.2 jailbreak, so I have all the features I like and want. I also am one of those people that doesn't recharge until it dies completely, so the battery still lasts two days at a time, unless they update Angry Birds. Then it dies pretty quick while I 3-star everything. (:

Nice review.
I am only worried about the bulkiness and thickness. Does this case make the ipad 2 a lot thicker and heavier? Is it heavy at all?

I have a G3 iMac (2001 Slot Loading, OS 10.3.9) that will not accept the Memorex CD-RX Rewritable disks I bought. Is there something I can do to format these so they work?
Heather, what is "CD-RX?" I've never heard of that format. Is that interchangeable with CD-RW? The latter is the standard read-write format supported by most burners....

I Saw you just posted, I am in Brigham and am looking at around 9:30am or so after we drop my daughter off at school, She is a senior and wanted to also take the day off but then decided she didn't want to wait that long in line. No Patients like dad I guess.
I will have my wife drop me off and she can spend the day at the library while i enjoy my "Apple Line" Experience.

The ability to take the iPhone (aka: your camera) away form your Mac during video chats presents some legit potential.
While this could be done (to an extent) with the original firewire iSights, the cable limited these kind of options.
I look forward to seeing how this shakes out.

I was a junior in college. I woke up around 9:30, and when I went to my computer I had 2 IMs from friends. One said "Turn on the news" and the other said "Turn on your tv, big stuff happening." I turned it on in time to see footage of the towers getting hit, it just blew me the **** away. I was dating someone who worked for the Senate, and spent most of the day trying to get through to her, as well as my family in New Jersey to make sure everyone we knew were alright. I remember random things, like my friend Noah im'ing with friends in NYC and calling their parents since their phones were jammed....I can't believe it's been 4 years. It feels like it was both longer and shorter. It was burned into our national (and international) conciousness, but the time frame seems so small....

Well, I see for me, some one who isn't going to buy an extra device to play portable games (my iphone has enough games I like, and not just the stupid little angry bird type games, stuff like old rpgs (and some new designed for the phone) and racing games) good and bad in this.
Good in that it may tempt more of the bigger developers to make stuff for my device (like Square has made quite a few games now though many of it is old games redone but hey, they're still fun :) , Capcom has some though in general I don't think Capcom has gotten the hang of making good iphone games, not as impressed with their stuff, we have Gameloft as well).
Bad in that the stuff that is encouraging people to move over is the angry bird type games and that it appears to make the more in depth stuff isn't as profitable. So in the long run we may not see as many games come out that are profitable.
Already it is sad when you look at the console market a lot of games are just games based on popular movies and not much innovation (cause the games based on the movies make the money and stuff like Okami and more innovative stuff gets ignored). I remember when I was reading an article complaining about how that was the trend in games (it happened to movies too once blockbusters came out. Movie studios were more interested in making blockbusters than unique movies, basically finding a formula that worked and sticking with it rather than trying anything different).
I think in terms of portable games, whether on smartphones or not, the market will produce what people want to play. I think in the portable market specifically (very different from the console market, as much as Sony wants to pretend people want to play full console-style games on the go), there is more demand for quick pick-up-and-put-down games, particularly ones with some depth, addictiveness, and significant content, which we're seeing more and more of.
At the same time, more 'serious' games like Square's releases and the recent Death Rally, and many others seem to be doing well enough that people looking for that kind of content shouldn't be too worried. I just wouldn't expect, say, a full-blown Assassin's Creed or similar console game, because those are console games. I don't think nearly enough people want that kind of experience on a phone to justify the cost.
As for most console games being licenced garbage these days, I would point out that has always been the case, back to the NES/SNES days. People only remember all the good games because, well, that's all people remember.

Well at least on Android if you WANT the latest OS you CAN have it. On iPhone if you want to be jailbroken you CANT have the latest OS more times than not, especially lately. If Android sux, switch back to iPhone, see how you love it after you're back.
Basically your nose is out of joint because you made a mistake when you bought your iPad2. so get rid of it if you hate it so much. just stop whining about things that are never going to change. it's very boring.

Do you mean .mp3 with mpeg?
Anyway, transcoding audio from one compressed format and codec to another format and codec will not make the audible quality better, as there is nothing there to make it better. You need to rip the original audio CDs again with better settings to gain quality.
try this:
take an empty pop can, place it on the floor, smash it flat, now try to pull it back to how it was.
see how it looks like crap? that's called compression

I read here that many rave about the Otterbox Commuter. A hybrid case that has silicone.
When I look at the silicone, it is a bit softer than many others that I have seen.
What is the life of the silicone? Does it get stretched out? Does it tear? How about the polycarbonate...does it scratch or discolor (thinking of getting the white shell).
Thanks for your thoughts.
Otterbox has a guarantee. If you need a new silicon they'll send you a knew one no questions asked.

It seems like only the US will be getting this phone if it happens.
The US Mobile phone network is antiquated compared to the rest of the world (well most of it) who are embracing the second generation of 3G (http://www.nextg.com.au/, http://www.three.com.au) ). At best this apple phone is rumoiured to be GSM... It may have the music player capabilities to die for but if I can't use it to make free video calls with my wife I am not interested. I hope I am wrong and they are looking at the rest of the world too.
http://www.t-mobile.com/ seems pretty ho hum in this day and age.

Have you tried setting reminders/alarms in iCal.
Works well for me.
I tried using iCal when I first switched over in '06. I integrated my Google calendar with it, but stopped using it because I often access my calendar in places other than my home computer. So I stuck with Google calendar and its "cloud" capabilities.
I know I can get MobileMe to access my iCal anywhere, but I rather not pay for a service when there's free (though shoddy like google cal) alternatives out there.

Try putting a space between the quote after .jpg and the word "border." (<img src="ACR_updatedmap.jpg"border="0" usemap="#Map">) There should be a space there. I don't know if this will solve the problem, but it may. Safari is usually a lot more forgiving than other browsers about little errors.

I didn't say I supported AllofMP3's way to do their shady business, I meant that legal downloading should be modelled like AllofMP3 AND that the artists should get paid.
If only we live in the perfect world, every business is out there for it's own interest - Jon, Record Company and AllofMP3 included. time to wake up and smell the coffee guys!
