Why do I get the feeling that, yet again, this product will be US-only at launch? Oh yeah, no-one in UK has heard of Cingular, that's why! ;)

You must be like me in the States but unlike me have not travel. I wonder if you will be singing the same tune as jobs dry up here and you can't get anything but the hamburger joint.
Like to be that fly on the wall when people finally get it, ROFL. Glad I don't have to worry about it. :D
But don't get me wrong I am all for punishing poor people they do deserve what they get. (sarcasm just in case)
Moral of the story is, either don't do it, or don't get caught!

So the deal about their location storage was what I expected then, other than my gov't requirement theory... An app/feature that hasn't come to fruition yet, hence also why Apple was sneaky about it (they are as we know very reluctant about discussing upcoming features and only if they really must). I have a feeling there's a similar explanation to why Google is storing user locations on the local device too.

... but after seeing these video presentations, serve me a plate of crow and I can't wait until June. This is very, very impressive. Still lots of questions, ie Color, Motion, hell lets throw in Shake while we are at it. I'm assuming there will be other apps in the family to show up but this is quite impressive to say in the least.
"After the presentation, I spoke with Richard Townhill, Director of Pro Video Product Marketing for Apple (who served as the host for Apples presentation) who told me that the purpose of today is to focus exclusively on Final Cut Pro, highlight some of the new features, and give people a chance to see and comment on the new interface. We will have much more to say about both Final Cut and our other applications in the future."

I have many reasons why I don't like them and their religion. First and foremost is because of the fact that Israel and its "nazi-like zionist army" have committed crimes against humanity.. Killing innocent Palestinian men, women, and children just for being Palestinian. Israel is doing exactly what the nations of Eastern Europe did to the Jewish populations there in WWII.
2ndly, there is a strong parallel between Zionism and Nazism and also racism. If anything Zionism is the root cause for why this race is hated in the world. Their religion also teaches to not associate with Gentiles and others.. In case you don't believe me, look up the BABYLONIAN TALMUD and how racist and perverted it is.
Israel cares about no one, and the foolish idiots here in this "dying" country called America(dying b/c of economy and debt) are still supporting them.. I say, if you support the killing, apartheid machine then you are supporting the destruction of a race of people, namely the Palestinians.
For those ignorant of or not really learning about the true nature of the government of Israel let me refresh your mind a bit.. If those monsters had their way without Obama, they would finish the job.. Obama and the world had urged and forced Israel to stop building settlements, but yet they still do.
Remember, its simple mathematics. The Jews number today 13 million and this number is drastically reducing because of the large intermarriage rate and Jews who try to assimilate to be like everyone else. Judaism as a religion is dying as we can see.. I am happy there are Jews out there who are seeing the light that Judaism and Zionism are failures and that Israel has FAILED to help anyone or anything..
I could go on and on, but I think I will stop here.. but I leave this on one note: So long as Israel exists, there will be future problems in the future for the US and the world.. I pray one day that Palestine becomes a reality and finally the freedom of the Palestinians is realized.
Joshuarocks, I hope you enjoyed your time here in the PRSI.

Conceptually, this is much cooler than it appears to be. What Apple has done is much more than listed a few new(?) input devices, because:
1) They have actually identified the lowest common denominator for most super-popular gizmos today a base unit for computers, cell phones, iPods, remote controls, game controllers, PSP:s etc. , and
2) They have shown that they can produce such base units (of different sizes and shapes), and leave the rest as cheap and customizable add-ons.
This is taking a mathematical mode of procedure and applying it to product development, and it's brilliant. Maybe there won't be any direct gizmo-spawning out of this, but surely there will be lots of indirect advancements in current product lines.
Conceptually from this perspective it is true. Its phenomenal manufacturing innovation if they can set it up like this. It would result in a shift in how people purchase and use electronics. However, mechanically it seems a much more inneficeint way of creating flexibility that people won't use more than once a week.

Not gonna happen. For starters, how do you type in names for your audio tracks when you've got your keyboard swapped for a mixer? :)
Still, neat idea.
External keyboard.
The overlay input device would obviously need to replace the laptop's keyboard, but plugging in an external keyboard would be easy enough.
I don't agree with "Spanky Deluxe" who said that these overlays would cost a fortune.
They would certainly cost less than buying a completely physically separate component.
I keep imagining something like those "Z-Board" gaming keyboards that are custom made for each game, but in this case it's just the overlay and the functionality that changes.
Interesting...

You know several people in North Carolina with local numbers?
Yes SunCom has an agreement with T-Mobile. SunCom also has an agreement with Cingular, actually when Cingular bought AT&T, Cingular had to divest themselves from alot of markets in North Carolina and these customers were turned over to SunCom. SunCom promptly required every ex-Cingular customer to resign their contracts and purchase new phones. It was a huge stink, all over the news for weeks.
But the agreement would not help in this situation. Since T-Mobile does not have local numbers here, one would have to go with SunCom as there are no local numbers for T-Mobile. In our area Cingular actually leases their block of numbers from Sprint.
Any company you decide to have cellular service with has to offer local numbers in order to use them. US Cellular is similar as they only offer local numbers for the very western part of the state.
The absolute best way to see where the towers are that your cellular provider owns (thus provides local numbers for) is to look at the coverage map for their prepaid service. Most providers only allow the use of prepaid phones on their "owned" networks and charge you for use on other networks.
I worked for Alltel for 3 years and am currently the Market Director for another national CDMA carrier. In my 15 years in the cellular industry, it constantly amazes me that there is cellular service in the US at all. The spectrum (A side and B side radio frequencies) ownership is so fragmented across the US that it is almost impossible to know who owns what, where!
I understand the local numbers thing, but just because North Carolina doesn't get local numbers doesn't mean T-Mobile isn't a real, national carrier.
North Carolina sounds funny when it comes to cell phones. I like Suncom's phone selection a lot better than anyone else's, and it sounds like SunCom's the only way to go out there. Here in Colorado, CDMA dominates, but T-Mobile has a big presence here, too. Cingular is nearly non-existent.
That AT&T thing sounds awful. Did a lawsuit occur in that? Also, I think Cingular's numbers are leased in a lot of places. In case you haven't used the reverse phone lookup on whitepages.com, it will tell you who the service provider is, but everytime I look up the two people I know with Cingular, it comes up saying Blue Licenses Holding, Llc or Routt County Wireless (which isn't a local carrier nor is Denver in Routt County.)
Yeah, the whole spectrum thing is funny. My dad is a doctor, and one of his patients worked for Qwest Wireless, and he put in a tower for us by our house because there was this deadspot nearby. Since Qwest sold their network to Sprint, it's now a Sprint tower, and the funny thing is, it also looks like a T-Mobile tower on their coverage check. And i can't tell if Verizon has one there or not. My phone has bad reception. It's so odd.

when something is wrong the genius bar replace the phone on the spot. does best buy do that?
That's not entirely true. While you will often times find an Apple genius who is willing to do that, (I've seen it many times myself), the Apple warranty agreement reads...
This warranty does not apply: (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake or other external causes.http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/iphone.pdf
BestBuy's warranty is pretty much a service/replacement plan. Meaning we will first try to "rapid exchange" the phone for you. As soon as GeekSquad checks the phone into the system, a request is generated to send a new or re-manufactured iPhone from our nearest repair center to the BestBuy store you request. This process normally takes about 2-3 days. When that happens if fulfills the service portion of your warranty contract.
If our repair center is out of new or re-manufactured iPhones then the system alerts that GeekSquad agent and then will send you to customer service to exchange your broken phone for a new one.
I normally recommend people purchase BestBuy warranties on Apple products that are capable of having the ADH warranty on them. Which are Laptops, and iPhones. Reason being, if you drop it, it's definitely covered. And you can still take it to any Apple service center to get repairs made as long as you're still within your Apple care warranty.
If you get an iPhone from BestBuy and you're still within your Applecare warranty or you find a polite Apple genius, then nothing is stopping you from trying to get a damaged iPhone exchanged. The only real difference is that BestBuy explicitly guaranties that it will either be repaired or replaced, whereas Apple says they will not repair/replace it, but normally make concessions.
